A generous 2 stars because I genuinely liked the book's beginning. Im not going to write a full review, but it turned into such a cliche. Two perfect boys with secrets in love with perfect MC girl. Boy 1 rapey and wanted by all girls. Boy 2 is dangerous and a player, that is until he meets girl and he suddenly changes his ways for her. MC girl is then hated by cliche popular girl.
This book is so bad and pointless I question how on earth this got a 4+ star average. It's actually really REALLY disappointing. Is it because the female character is loved (not just wanted, but LOVED) by unrealistic perfect men? Probably. But the scenarios are so ridiculous how anyone could read this without rolling their eyes is beyond me.
Even though I was screaming at the main character 99% of the time "make better choices!!", I was still enjoying this. HOWEVER,the overall story, is lacking an ending, there's also no point in the story which is elevated. This novels feels like the first 3rd of a unfinished book. Its annoying. In fact if this novel was to go on for 5 more pages, Thats where the climax would be, and then we'd still have to get through the resolution - and even i remember this from year 5 writing classes. So yeah. Was enjoying it. Then realised i was never going to find out what was going to happen. Got angry. Annoyed = This review.
A main character can be the deciding factor between a good story and a story in which you can just sit back relax and trust in the decisions she's making. Josie is one of these characters.
Im just in awe of the premise. I wasn't a huge fan of the ending, but Im still a big fan of this piece of work. Noteworthy is the fact that if someone had of given me cliff notes or a summary, i'd probably have judged it and disregarded it as a bit loopy and supremely sci-fi. But having actually read it and having been suprised by it I can confirm that although the idea is a little strange and a little off centre it is well delivered to the point where the premise is believable and the ride is fricken exciting. Different. Sci Fi. Unpredictable. Vivid. Loved it. **short review does not give the journey (that this book provides) justice
2nd book Ive read by this author. The atmosphere and the characters feel very real and I really like them, flaws and all.
This book is so good that whatever I write here wont give it Justice. To summarize with a jumble of words: Casinos, Mafia, Con Artists, The non-sappy kind of Romance, Flawed Characters, Independent Females, Scars, Tattoos, Insecurities, UH-MAY-ZIN.
Random Musings:It was an easy read book with some mobster involvement, which Im out on the hunt for atm, the male characters are quite believable, and the fact that they were all besotted with the same woman didnt annoy me as much as it should have. Unfortunately there seamed to be paragraphs of pointless bits of story which I wasnt interested in. Lots of time spent on the main character and her passion for being a lawyer which was quite a trip to boresville. It didnt come across as a polished novel.
This book is the epitome of what a clique of girls can and will do to each other. The helplessness, the highs, the annoyance, and the power that comes with the territory of social standing. The book delves into a different aspect on cheerleaders which strays far from the colourful, pom pom waving, beautiful, pretty smiling teenage girls. Instead your thrown into the competitive, ruthless and selfish standpoints of young impressionable individual girls, who happen to be cheerleaders. The writing is just the perfect mix of first person narration, beauty and dialogue. And it may be 2012, but the novel doesn't follow the crush and romanticized trend that has been done to death as of late. It too, involves a murder mystery of sorts that isn't entirely predictable and also highlights the themes of the novel without taking the attention away from them. So yeah, read this. In a somewhat thematic viewpoint, it has a similar vibe to Courtney Summer's Some girls Are, but better. If your looking for contemporary romance, an easy read, butterfly good feel emotions, you should look elsewhere.
I just can't finish this one, and I rather enjoyed Under the Never Sky too. Not sure what happened. Possibly another case of trying to make a trilogy rather than a decent story.
